How do I order an exam to be proctored?
1. From the BYU website, go to "Request Exam."
2. From there, you have two options: "Proctored Tests" or "Testing Centers." Choose "Testing Centers." You can also go directly to their link by clicking here, or click "request exam" in the option bar in the following link http://ce.byu.edu/is/site/
3. Enter your ZIP code, and a list of optional testing centers in your area will appear. Choose Fusion Learning Center from the list.
4. You will be asked if you have contacted Fusion Learning Center to verify testing hours, if there is a fee required, or if you need an appointment. Choose "yes" and see the answers below:
Testing hours: Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Proctoring fee: $35 per hour, prorated after the first hour
Appointment needed: Yes
5. You will be asked if you have any unpaid fees.
6. You will be asked if you have turned in all your assignments.
7. You will need to complete the form shown on the BYU site, including your name, phone number, email address, and course number. Your phone number is REQUIRED, and should be the phone number at which you want the proctor to contact you.
After completing these steps, BYU will send the exam to Fusion Learning Center. As soon as the proctor receives the exam, he or she will contact you via the phone number you provided on the request form.
What happens when I show up for the test?
1. When you arrive at Fusion Learning Center, you will be asked to fill out a one-page form with your contact information.
2. The proctor will take you to a private room to take the exam.
3. Most exams are untimed, but the proctor will read the directions to you on the day of the exam to verify any time requirements or allotments.
4. Once you have completed your exam, the proctor will collect the exam and mail it directly back to BYU.
5. The proctoring fee must be paid before leaving Fusion Learning Center. Fusion accepts checks, MasterCard, and Visa.
Do I need to bring anything to the test?
Yes, you need to bring identification in order for the proctor to verify your identity. Please also bring any other materials instructed by BYU (e.g., a calculator, if allowed).
What can I expect during the test?
According to the BYU website:
1. "Students cannot take the exam with unauthorized books, notes, or reference aids of any kind unless specified on the exam instructions in the proctor letter. Students cannot take notes on the exam or have any part of it to study after taking it. The student or the proctor cannot duplicate the exam in any way."
2. "Proctors must collect all papers and questions at the conclusion of the exam. All materials, including exam questions, signed cover sheet, and any scratch paper must be sealed and mailed back by the proctor in the envelope provided."
3. "The exam must be mailed back to the Independent Study Office within one month of the proctor's receiving it, whether the student has taken the exam or not."
Additional notes from the BYU Independent Study Office:
"You must contact the Independent Study Office at 800 914 8931 to request a retake exam, express and exam, or receive assistance with any of the problems listed above.
