Q.
If my child needs it, will Fusion help with more than
just academic problems?
Absolutely!
Our goal is to find the true causes of your childs
learning difficulties. At Fusion Learning Center, we
strive to understand the whole childnot just his
or her school performance. We work with family, teachers,
counselors, parents, and therapists to give each child
the individual attention and care he or she deserves.
While getting the grades up is important, we know that
cant happen if the child is struggling with bigger
issues, such as learning disabilities, peer pressure,
drugs, alcohol, or an unstable home life. And in the
unlikely instance Fusion cant help, well
refer you to someone who can.
Q.
What happens at the first Fusion meeting?
Depending
upon the childs age and needs, the people involved
in the first meeting will vary. However, this "intake
meeting" lasts for one-half to one full hour, and
usually consists of meeting with Michelle Rose Gilman
or another member of the Fusion Leadership Team, talking
with the immediate family or step-family, and reviewing
the academic and emotional history of the child. From
there, a personalized program is created that takes
into account your childs needs, the type of support
required, and your schedule.
Q.
What should we bring to the intake session?
Report
cards, diagnostic tests, writing samples, medication
histories, letters and reports from teachersall
will be needed in the intake session, as well as any
other written material that may assist us in understanding
who your child is.
Q.
Does Fusion Learning Center offer academic help during
the summer?
Yes.
The Homework Café; is open, and we offer
programs for all ages, such as Novel Pre-Reading, the
Get-Ahead Programsm, Study- and School-Survival
Skills, and general school tutoring, among other specialty
programs. Furthermore, many students find that taking
classes for credit with us over the summer is a great
way to get ahead for the next year, make up a poor grade,
or simply give that college application a final push.
Q.
What are the people like at Fusion Learning Center?
Our
staff is as diverse as your kids! We employ a wide range
of people to make sure we meet the needs of everyone
who walks in our door. Here at Fusion, youll find
math specialists, Spanish-language teachers, science
and history experts, learning disability specialists,
and Certified Educational Therapists. With a healthy
mix of personalities and backgrounds, our staff can
meet the needs of nearly every child.
Q.
Does the staff go through Fusion-specific training?
Yes.
Staff members go through a three-week training process.
First, they have an intensive interview with the CEO
and Executive Director. A mock tutoring session follows.
Finally, they work with a real student while being supervised
by an Educational Therapist. Once this interview process
is complete, each new Fusion teacher begins an intensive
training program led by Michelle Rose Gilman. This Fusion
certification builds up the skills they already possess,
making them even more effective.
Q.
What does Fusion Learning Center cost?
Our
tutoring services are reasonably priced at just $65
per hour (music and art are $50 per hour). Registration
is a one-time fee of $195, and includes your intake
meeting. Homework Café is $15 per hour. For more
information, please call or email Karina Neal, Director
of Tutoring and Mentoring.
Tuition for independent study classes varies, depending
upon which course your child wants to take. For more
information on independent study classes, please call
or email Christopher Burger, Director of Independent
Studies.
